Glyndebourne Black Gillet by Ottoman Silks
This pure silk men’s black Gillet has been created exclusively by Ottoman Silks for Glyndebourne with a bespoke woven fabric.
The fabric design is taken from the imperial wardrobe of Sultan Selim II (1524–1574). A contemporary alternative to black tie, this exquisitely refined Gillet has been hand finished by Turkish tailors.
The Gillet includes two exterior pockets and a large interior breast pocket.
The Siyah Amina fabric is a black silk variation of the Amina design – an intricate staggered ogival lattice of tulips and medallions combined with a repeating horizontal pattern. Originally it was hand woven in pure silk as a ceremonial robe that was long sleeved and collarless with side slits lined with beaver fur.
Our exclusive replicate design is expertly woven on jacquard looms by the best silk mills in Bursa – Turkey’s silk capital. With over 500 years of history, this intricate design encapsulates the imperial luxury of its time. Like their opulent beginnings, the fabric has been tailored to produce this unique collection to delight and impress in equal measure.
